Ms. Feeny - Kindergarten Wellness

Welcome to Kindergarten Wellness!

Now the that kindergartener's have done a fantastic job completing their third trimester NWEA testing, we are back in the groove in Wellness class.  To start the next series of lessons, we are focusing on personal safety through the use of the Safe Side curriculum.  We are learning about strategies to keep oneself safe around strangers.  Instead of using terms like "stranger danger", the lessons we are using focus on putting others into one of three groups:  Safe Side Adults, Kinda Knows, and Don't Knows.  This helps children understand to use caution around acquaintances as well as people who are completely unknown.  "Safe Side Adults" are a child's most trusted grown-ups, "Knows" are acquaintences like coaches, teachers, doctors, family friends, and other people familiar to the child but not considered the closest, and "Don't Knows" include people unfamiliar to children (aka strangers).  Through the lessons, the children will be introduced to the following tips:

1-  Keep you Safe Side Adult close.  If you can see them, they can see you!

2-  Never open the door without your Safe Side Adult.

3-  STOP AND THINK!  Don't fall for tricks!

4-  Never talk to Don't Knows unless your Safe Side Adult is with you.

5-  Don't let anyone inside your Safe Side Circle.  Run from danger!

6-  Know you three Safe Side Adults.

7-  Never go anywhere, with anyone, unless you ask your Safe Side Adult first.
