We are currently working through Chapters 1 and 2 in the "Across the Centuries" Textbook in all three 7th Grade Classes. The focus of this unit if to connect the other core areas of the 7th Grade Social Studies (geography, history, and civics) to our prior Economics Units.
Students in all three 7th grade Social Studies classes received an outline and a worksheet for Chapter 1, Lesson 2 today/yesterday in class. The worksheet must be completed by the beginning of class on Thursday. Students were given about fifteen minutes at the end of each period to work on the assignment and were also asked to record the assignment in their agenda books. Students should also review their Week 3 Vocabulary Terms for their vocabulary quiz Thursday. We will review briefly in class before they begin the quiz.
Each student in Section 7-3 also received a double-sided worksheet for Chapter 2, Lesson 2 that must be completed by Monday, December 12th. It is a Reading Strategy Guide and Study Guide Chart that will help them to focus on the key questions, main idea and supporting details of the Lesson on Acquainted Cultures during Roman Times. Students in 7-1 and 7-2 will receive the worksheet and due date in class on Thursday.
When we discuss each of these lessons in class, they will be able to add details to the worksheet and use them as tools to prepare for their Unit Test and upcoming project.
I am in the process of updating the Classnotes Page for 7th grade Social Studies; hopefully the Resources Section on this page will be helpful to students as they begin to develop their research skills and work independently on upcoming current event assignments and projects. As we work our way through different units and projects in both 7th and 8th grade, I ask students to help me further develop my list of resources so that they can learn from each other about credible resources that are available to them.
Whenever possible, I will upload new documents to my Classnotes Page that are related to the unit we are studying. These could include vocabulary lists, copies of worksheets, instructions and rubrics. Currently, there are NO new documents attached at the bottom of the page. If I update the page and attach files, I will also try to send an email making you aware of this change. Students are encouraged to visit this page frequently, especially if they are absent.
If at anytime you have questions regarding the unit and/or assignments students are expected to complete, please do not hestitate to email me.
