Current Unit of Study - Economic Systems
This unit explores the characteristics of different economies (traditional, command, market, and mixed) and how each economy makes production, exchange, and distribution decisions based on cultural values, resource availability, and use of technology.
Students will first learn how each type of economy answer the three basic economic questions:
1. What to produce?
2. How to produce?
3. Who receives it?
Students will participate in activities that compare economies. The culminating task has students research and create a museum displayof how the production of one good has changed over time by looking at culture, resources, and technology used to produce that good.

Student TCI access
Students can access our History Alive! curriculum online through the address below. This will allow students and parents to view the text online as well as use features such as revealing vocabulary words as they read; highlighting text; and reading out loud via a computer-generated voice.
At the end of most chapters, there is a reading challenge game to prepare students for the end of chapter assessments. The student final score on the game is reported to the teacher to gauge how prepared students are for the test. It's also fun! Please encourage your student to use these online resources.
Study Tips
To help your student improve their learning and test scores, use our on-line text reading feature at home. Students will read the textbook as part of their classroom experience, however, they can always listen to the chapters again at home. Just have your child log on to learntci.com and sign in. (see info below) Access the text reading feature and students can listen and read the text again - it will help their comprehension.
